Husband Arrested for Acid Attack on Wife in Baishari, Bandarban

In Baishari, Naikhongchhari, Bandarban, a man named Md. Toha (25) allegedly attempted to kill his wife, Jesmin Akter (22), by pouring a corrosive substance on her. Jesmin succumbed to her severe burns after three days of battling for her life.

Police conducted a morning operation and arrested Toha from Cox’s Bazar district town. Officer-in-Charge of Naikhongchhari Police Station, Md. Masrurul Haque, stated that Jesmin was rescued by locals in a burnt condition on September 9 and admitted to Cox’s Bazar District Hospital. She died on Friday evening after nearly four days of treatment.

According to the case statement, Toha worked at a local company’s rubber garden and lived with his wife in the company’s staff quarters. While she was sleeping, he allegedly poured the acid-like substance on her in an attempt to kill her.

The deceased woman’s elder brother, Nazrul Islam, filed a case under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act at Naikhongchhari Police Station. Police conducted an operation, arrested Toha, and sent him to jail through the court.
