The October matches of the AFC Asian Cup qualifiers brought a mix of highs and lows for Bangladesh football. In Dhaka, Bangladesh put up a strong fight against Hong Kong but lost 4-3 in dramatic fashion at the last moment. In the return leg in Hong Kong, Xavier Cabrera’s team managed a 1-1 draw, leaving the field with a respectable result.

After the tour, Bangladesh midfielder Hamza Chowdhury has returned to England. On Thursday (16 October), he shared moments from training and matches on his Facebook page, noting that he is taking away some positive experiences from the October tour, even though the results did not meet expectations.

Hamza said, “We didn’t get the results we hoped for despite all the hard work. Yet, wearing the Bangladesh jersey and stepping onto the field is always a matter of pride for me.”

The English-Bangladeshi player from Leicester City added that although there were gaps in the team’s performance, the players’ mental resilience has improved. According to him, “We are on the path to improvement, though it will take time.”

With just 2 points from four matches, Bangladesh’s hopes of reaching the main stage are practically over. However, two more matches remain, including a significant one against India. On 18 November, the Red and Green team will face India in Dhaka.

Addressing fans, Hamza promised, “Insha’Allah, we will meet again in November.”

Football enthusiasts are now looking forward to that match, hoping Hamza Chowdhury will once again light up the field for the national team and bring new hope.
