Government to purchase 10 million liters of rice bran oil, budget set at 17.95 billion taka

The government has decided to purchase 10 million liters of refined rice bran oil in order to stabilize the country’s edible oil market. The total expenditure for this purchase has been set at approximately 17.95 billion taka.

The proposal was approved at a meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Government Purchase held on Wednesday. The oil will be procured locally through an open tender process under the initiative of the Ministry of Commerce.

According to government sources, the price of packaged rice bran oil in 2-liter PET bottles has been fixed at 179.50 taka per liter, including VAT and taxes.

Approved supplying companies include Majumdar Bran Oil Mills Limited, Majumdar Products Limited, Tamim Agro Industries Limited, and Green Oil and Poultry Feed Industries.

According to allocation details, Majumdar Bran Oil Mills Limited will supply 4 million liters of oil. Majumdar Products Limited will supply 3 million liters, Tamim Agro Industries Limited will supply 2 million liters, and Green Oil and Poultry Feed Industries will supply 1 million liters of rice bran oil.

Government officials stated that this initiative has been taken to ensure stable supply of edible oil and to control market prices.

In the same meeting, proposals for purchasing rice bran oil, lentils, and palm olein were also approved by the Cabinet Committee on Government Purchase.
