Gold Price Drops Nearly 30,000 Taka in Two Days

Gold prices have fallen significantly in the market for two consecutive days. The Bangladesh Jewelers Association (BAJUS) announced that as per the latest price adjustments, the price per tola of gold has dropped by nearly 30,000 Taka in two days.

On Saturday (31 January), the BAJUS Standing Committee on Price Monitoring set the new prices:

  • 22-carat hallmark gold: 21,915 Taka per gram, 255,617 Taka per tola (previously 271,363 Taka per tola)

  • 21-carat hallmark gold: 20,920 Taka per gram, 244,010 Taka per tola

  • 18-carat gold: 17,930 Taka per gram, 209,135 Taka per tola

  • Traditional gold: 14,735 Taka per gram, 171,869 Taka per tola

The BAJUS notice mentioned that the government’s 5% VAT and a minimum 6% labor charge for jewelry must be added to the sale price. Labor costs may vary depending on design and quality.

Silver prices were also adjusted:

  • 22-carat silver: 7,302 Taka per tola

  • 21-carat: 6,940 Taka per tola

  • 18-carat: 5,949 Taka per tola

  • Traditional silver: 4,432 Taka per tola

This year, gold prices have been adjusted 18 times (13 increases and 5 decreases), while silver prices were adjusted 14 times (9 increases and 5 decreases).
