Gayeshwar Chandra Roy, a member of BNP’s Standing Committee, stated that democracy in the country is still not fully in place. He said, “We want to believe that the election will take place. However, there are still concerns about the election until the votes are counted.”

He made these remarks on Friday (15 August) morning during a prayer event at BNP’s central office in Naya Paltan, held to celebrate the 81st birthday of BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia.

Gayeshwar Chandra Roy further said, “There are conspiracies surrounding the election. We will remain vigilant. We will not fall into anyone’s trap.” He described Khaleda Zia not only as the BNP Chairperson but also as a leading figure fighting for the country’s democracy. He added, “Khaleda Zia has become a guardian of the nation. She herself never celebrated her birthday; we organize it on behalf of the party.”

At the event, BNP Standing Committee member Nazrul Islam Khan said, “Due to her popularity, the ruling party had pushed Khaleda Zia towards death.”

Additionally, BNP Standing Committee member Mirza Abbas commented, “Considering the pressure from special political parties and the wishes of party workers, Begum Zia had to participate in the 2008 election.”

The leaders at the event expressed hope for the restoration of democracy in the country and called for focusing on a new political beginning under the leadership of BNP’s acting Chairman, Tarique Rahman.
