Finance Minister Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury has stated that although the fuel supply in the country is normal, a new decision regarding price adjustments may come soon. He emphasized that ensuring fuel security in the current global scenario is the government’s top priority.

Speaking to journalists on Friday afternoon at an event at the Korean EPZ in Chattogram, the minister said that there is no shortage of fuel in the country. However, importing oil and gas at high international prices over the long term is becoming difficult. Hence, price adjustment is necessary to reduce financial pressure on the government and manage the situation.

He said that any disruption in fuel supply could cause significant losses in agriculture and industry. Therefore, the government is taking various measures to maintain normal supply. As part of a conservation initiative, the minister and government officials have been instructed to use 30% less fuel.

He added that ongoing conflicts in the Middle East have created volatility in the global fuel market, which is also affecting Bangladesh. Nevertheless, the government is trying to procure fuel from alternative sources to keep supply uninterrupted.

He noted that this crisis is not limited to Bangladesh but has worldwide implications. Efforts are continuing to ensure fuel supply through increased international communication.

The finance minister urged everyone to use fuel sparingly and stated that overcoming the current challenges requires coordinated efforts from both the government and the public.

The minister was present as the chief guest at the event, which was chaired by Dr. M.M. Nurul Absar, with keynote remarks by Ki Hak Sung.
