A sudden fire broke out in the engine of the Bala Commuter Train at Gafargaon Railway Station in Mymensingh, causing the train to stall and passengers to face severe inconvenience.

The incident occurred on Friday (August 29, 2025) at 8:05 AM. The train, traveling from Dhaka to Jaria-Jhanzail, arrived at Gafargaon Station when flames and black smoke started coming out of the engine.

Golam Kibria, Officer-in-Charge (Sub-Inspector) of Gafargaon Railway Police, said that the driver and staff were able to control the fire, but the engine became completely inoperative. After nearly two hours, a relief engine arrived from Mymensingh, allowing the train to continue its journey to its destination.

He added, “Although the incident caused the train to depart late, overall traffic on the Dhaka-Mymensingh rail route remained normal.”

Passengers were reportedly terrified and faced significant inconvenience inside the train. Fortunately, no major damage was reported.
