Amid ongoing Israeli attacks, Gaza’s Health Ministry has reported that five more Palestinians, including two children, have died from starvation. This raises the total number of hunger-related deaths to 227, including 103 children. Humanitarian organizations have warned that the worsening food crisis is rapidly deteriorating the situation.
Meanwhile, funerals were held for five Al Jazeera journalists killed in Israeli strikes in Gaza. Among the deceased was Anas Al-Sharif, who had been continuously reporting on the devastation in Gaza. These killings have sparked outrage worldwide. People in cities such as London, Berlin, Tunis, and Ramallah have protested, demanding an end to attacks on journalists and accountability for the perpetrators.
The situation has also sparked controversy following claims by Israeli investigative journalist Yuval Abraham. He alleged that after October 7, Israel’s military intelligence formed a special team called the “Legitimization Cell.” Their task was to find justifications for the military assaults on Gaza, especially by portraying some Palestinian journalists as Hamas members to legitimize their killings. According to Abraham, despite several days of effort, they found no such evidence, yet confusion was spread about the identities of the journalists to cover up the killings.
International media watchdog organizations have stated that the killing of journalists in Gaza is a worrying trend, possibly part of a deliberate strategy to suppress independent journalism.
