PNN International Desk | June 21, 2025 (Al Jazeera): As the ongoing Iran-Israel conflict enters its eighth day, uncertainty looms over the region’s future. However, a significant diplomatic development is unfolding today, as Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi is set to meet with his counterparts from the United Kingdom, France, and Germany in Geneva in a bid to de-escalate the crisis.
UK Foreign Secretary David Lammy, along with the foreign ministers of France and Germany, have traveled to Geneva for the talks. The EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs, Kaja Kallas, is also expected to join the discussions, underscoring the urgency and importance of the meeting.
This marks the first direct high-level dialogue between Iran and Western powers since the conflict erupted more than a week ago. Observers believe the meeting could open a diplomatic pathway toward a peaceful resolution and reduce the risk of a wider regional war.
While no immediate outcome from the talks has been reported yet, the international community's eyes are firmly on Geneva, hoping that diplomacy may succeed where weapons have failed.
