On the final day to collect nomination forms for the Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (DUCSU) election, the crowd has increased. As of Tuesday afternoon, 21 more candidates have collected nomination forms, bringing the total number of applicants to 586.
The university administration had extended the collection period by one day, making today the final day to obtain nomination forms. However, this decision has drawn criticism. Several organizations, including the Democratic Students’ Union, have alleged that the administration deliberately extended the time to favor a particular student organization.
Chief Returning Officer Professor Mohammad Jasim Uddin denied the allegations, stating, “The extension was not given to provide special advantages to anyone. We increased the time to ensure greater student participation.”
According to the schedule, nomination forms must be submitted by 5:00 PM on August 20. After verification, voting will be held on September 9. This year, elections will be conducted for 28 DUCSU positions and 18 hall union posts.
According to the published final voter list, there are a total of 39,775 voters, including 20,871 male students and 18,902 female students. Voting will take place at designated centers outside the eight campus centers.
