A horrific incident has created widespread shock in Ukhiya upazila of Cox’s Bazar, where the wife of an expatriate was allegedly raped and murdered. The incident occurred early Sunday morning at a house near the Madhughona Khala hill in the East Morichya area of Haldia Union.
The deceased, Lala Bibi (30), was the wife of Malaysian expatriate Abdu Shukkur. According to family and local sources, a group of criminals entered her house early in the morning during Sehri (pre-dawn meal) and physically assaulted her. When neighbors rushed in hearing her cries, she was found unconscious inside the house. Later, it was confirmed that she had died.
Her family claims that she was raped and then strangled to death. They also reported visible signs of injuries across her body. The family suspects that the attack may have been premeditated, possibly linked to a long-standing land dispute.
Nur Ahmad, officer-in-charge (OC) of Ukhiya police station, told reporters that preliminary investigations indicate the involvement of multiple individuals. Evidence has been collected from the scene, and the body has been sent for autopsy. The exact cause of death will be confirmed once the autopsy report is received.
After the autopsy, the funeral was held after Iftar on Tuesday, and the body was buried in the family graveyard. The deceased’s family filed a case with the police on the same night. Authorities are continuing the operation to arrest those involved. The incident has caused fear in the area, and local residents have demanded that the perpetrators be quickly identified and brought to justice.
