A case has been filed at Gopalganj Police Station over an attack and vandalism at the shrine of Nurul Haque, also known as Nurul Paglar Darbar Sharif. The case was registered early Saturday morning by SI Md. Selim Molla. The allegations include assault on police, obstruction of government work, and destruction of government property.

Gopalganj Police Station OC Mohammad Rakibul Islam said that 3,000 to 3,500 unidentified people have been named as accused in the case. Further details will be provided later.

According to police sources, on Friday after Jumu’ah prayers, an organization named ‘Iman Akida Roksha Committee’ began a protest program at the Freedom Fighter Shaheed Fakir Mohiuddin Ansar Club as previously announced. When the agitated crowd tried to move toward the shrine, local administration and police tried to stop them.

The protesters vandalized vehicles belonging to the Upazila Nirbahi Officer, Additional Superintendent of Police, and the Police OC, injuring two people. They then entered the shrine, damaging the building and carrying out arson. At one point, the body of Nurul Haque, also known as Nurul Paglar, was exhumed and burned at Padma Mor on the Dhaka-Khulna Highway.
