Businessman dies of heatstroke during Bhanga protest, grief spreads in the area

A businessman, Md. Habibur Rahman Hobi Sheikh, died after suffering a heatstroke while participating in a protest demanding the reintegration of Algi and Hamirdi unions into Bhanga Upazila.

He was a resident of Charkanda village in Algi Union and a wholesale grocery trader at Air Bhuiya Market in Bhanga. According to protest participants, on Tuesday (September 9) around 11:30 a.m., Habibur Rahman felt unwell while standing with protesters near the hospital junction. Later, while returning to his shop by van, he experienced breathing difficulties.

He was immediately taken to the Upazila Health Complex, where the on-duty doctor declared him dead. News of his death quickly spread in the area, casting a shadow of grief.

Bhanga Police Station Officer-in-Charge Mohammad Ashraf Hossain stated that after the businessman felt unwell at his shop in the morning, he was quickly taken to the hospital, but the doctors declared him dead.
