Khondaker Rashed Maqsood, Chairman of the Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission (BSEC), along with four commissioners, has resigned from their posts.

They submitted their resignation letters to the Financial Institutions Division of the Ministry of Finance on Thursday morning (June 4), according to official sources.

The four commissioners are Md. Mohsin Chowdhury, Md. Ali Akbar, Farzana Lalarukh, and Md. Saifuddin.

Sources said the chairman resigned after serving about 21 months, citing personal reasons and a desire to focus on other activities. He assumed office in August 2024.

In his statement, he said the commission worked to restore discipline in the capital market during a period of instability and attempted to strengthen regulatory frameworks.

He also mentioned reforms in margin lending, IPO rules, mutual funds, debt securities, and whistleblower regulations. Draft policies on corporate governance and audit systems were also prepared for public consultation.

He added that draft laws including the BSEC Act and Capital Market Stabilization Fund Act were sent to the Financial Institutions Division.

He expressed gratitude to officials, market participants, and the government for their cooperation.

Meanwhile, sources indicate that the process of appointing a new chairman and commissioners has already begun.
