In Ukhiya, near the Myanmar border in Cox’s Bazar, the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) recovered 480,000 Yaba pills during an operation. However, no individuals were arrested during the raid.

According to sources, the drugs were seized on Thursday night around 8:00 PM in the Palongkhali border area of Ukhiya. Acting on a tip-off, authorities tracked the drug traffickers, who were reportedly attempting to smuggle a large quantity of Yaba from Myanmar into Bangladesh via the Palongkhali border.

A team from Ukhiya 64 BGB battalion was stationed in the Katakhali area for the night operation. Around 8:00 PM, they spotted seven individuals trying to enter Bangladesh through a narrow path near fish enclosures. When challenged by the BGB, the seven people abandoned four cloth bags and fled. The BGB team later recovered the Yaba pills from these bags.

Lieutenant Colonel Mohammad Jasim Uddin, commander of the Ukhiya 64 BGB battalion, said the estimated market value of the seized Yaba is approximately 144 million BDT. The recovered drugs will be handed over to Ukhiya Police Station following legal procedures. He also stated that intelligence operations are ongoing to identify the fleeing traffickers.

Lieutenant Colonel Jasim Uddin added, “This is the largest seizure of Yaba by the Ukhiya 64 BGB battalion since operations began on March 25 of this year.”
