A clash broke out between supporters of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) and Jamaat-e-Islami in Sirajpur Union of Companiganj Upazila in Noakhali. During the incident, a local BNP office was vandalized. At least 10 leaders and activists from both sides were injured in the clash, according to reports.

The clashes took place several times from Friday (July 31) evening until night in the Dinar Dokan area of Ward No. 6 under Sirajpur Union.

Among those injured were Jubo Dal leader Anwar Hossain (32), Ripon Mia (27), Faruk (27), Osman (24), president of Ward No. 8 Islami Chhatra Shibir unit of Sirajpur Union, and Rifat (25), the secretary of the same unit. The identities of the other injured individuals could not be confirmed immediately.

According to local residents and police sources, the incident originated from a previous dispute in the area. It was alleged that Mujahid, son of former chairman candidate of Sirajpur Union and Jamaat Ameer Abul Hashem, called a Chhatra Dal activist to the Sirajpur PL Academy field and assaulted him.

Later, tensions spread after reports emerged that a Shibir activist had allegedly been beaten by Chhatra Dal activists. At around 11pm, allegations surfaced that Jamaat and Shibir activists vandalized the local BNP office. Following this, clashes broke out between the two groups, leading to several rounds of chases and counter-chases.

After receiving information, police from Companiganj Police Station rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control. Police said the situation in the area is currently normal.

Companiganj Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mohammad Nurul Hakim said police immediately went to the scene after receiving reports of the clash and managed to control the situation.

“No party has submitted a written complaint to the police station so far. If a complaint is received, the matter will be investigated and necessary legal action will be taken,” he said.
