Bluesky has introduced a new initiative outside social media: an AI app called ‘Attie’, allowing users to create their own algorithms, design custom feeds, and eventually develop their own apps.
The app was presented for the first time at the Atmosphere conference over the weekend. Former Bluesky CEO Jay Graber and CTO Paul Frazee participated. Attie is built on Anthropic’s Claude AI technology and operates on Bluesky’s AT Protocol.
Initially, Attie functions as a standalone app, separate from the main Bluesky app. Users can easily create feeds based on personal preferences without any coding knowledge.
The app can be accessed via any AT Protocol-based account. As an open system, it can understand users’ interests, preferences, and past activity to deliver a personalized experience. Currently, Attie allows custom feed creation and management, but in the future, users may develop their own social apps or tools through it.
Bluesky officials say AI is being used to benefit users rather than the platform itself. By using an open protocol, control over technology is placed in the hands of users.
Bluesky recently received an additional $100 million in investment to support its operations. The company is also working on stronger privacy measures and sustainable revenue models. Analysts suggest AI-driven customization tools like Attie may significantly change the way social media is used, giving users greater control over their experience.
