Banglalink has opened a new horizon in the country’s mobile communication system. For the first time, the company has launched the ‘Voice over Wi-Fi’ (VoWiFi) service, allowing customers to make calls using only a Wi-Fi connection without relying on a mobile network.
According to Banglalink, announced today (September 4), this service enables customers to make calls even in areas with weak or no mobile network coverage, as long as a stable Wi-Fi connection is available. Additionally, VoWiFi calls will be charged at the same rate as regular mobile calls, with no extra fees applied.
Banglalink’s CEO, Johan Busse, stated, “The VoWiFi service will provide customers with easier, more reliable, and transparent communication. This is an important step for Bangladesh’s digital future.”
Banglalink also noted that after receiving approval from the telecom regulator, the service has been launched as a pilot project in partnership with selected internet service providers in Dhaka and Chittagong. The company plans to gradually expand this service across the country.
