Bangladesh Bank purchases an additional USD 107 million through auction

On Thursday, Bangladesh Bank purchased USD 107 million through an auction. The amount was bought from ten commercial banks in the country using the multiple price auction method. The exchange rate was 121.80 BDT per US dollar.

Arif Hossain Khan, spokesperson for the central bank, stated that the supply of dollars in the market exceeds demand, and regular purchases have been made since July to protect the interests of exporters and expatriates and maintain the market rate. So far, Bangladesh Bank has purchased a total of USD 2.088 billion.

Previously, Bangladesh Bank had conducted 13 rounds of dollar purchases at different times. In recent months, the exchange rate ranged from 121.47 to 121.80 BDT per US dollar, with several million to hundreds of millions of dollars bought in each round.
