A court has rejected the bail petition of Md. Moslem Ahmed, vice-principal of Qariul Quran International Madrasa, in a case filed over allegations of sexual abuse of a seven-year-old student in Tongi, Gazipur. The court also ordered that he be sent to jail.

The order was passed on Sunday (October 25) by Omar Haider, Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate of Gazipur. Earlier, the child’s father filed a case under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act. The accused teacher was presented before the court after being formally shown arrested in connection with the case.

According to case records, the child’s statement was recorded before the court on Thursday.

According to the allegations, the first-grade student was sexually abused on Monday, October 19, on a staircase on the ground floor of the madrasa in Tongi. Following the incident, the child became reluctant to attend the madrasa. When family members asked about the reason for this change in behaviour, the child initially did not disclose anything. Later, the child told the parents what had allegedly happened.

Subsequently, at noon on October 21, the child’s relatives went to the madrasa and questioned the accused teacher about the incident. As the matter spread, local residents also gathered at the scene. The teacher was reportedly assaulted during the incident.

After receiving information about the incident, police arrived at the scene, rescued the accused teacher and took him to the police station. The child’s father later filed a case under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act.

Meanwhile, several videos showing the questioning of the accused teacher and the incident in which he was allegedly assaulted have circulated on Facebook. The videos have generated widespread discussion and criticism on social media.

Ensuring the child’s safety, conducting a fair investigation into the allegations and upholding the legal process have become important considerations in the case. However, the accused cannot be considered guilty unless the allegations are proven in court.
