One of the largest technology companies, Amazon Web Services (AWS), is preparing to launch a new AI Agent Marketplace at the AWS Summit in New York on July 15. This was confirmed by two reliable sources to TechCrunch. The initiative includes a partnership with Anthropic, currently regarded as one of the leading names in the AI industry.

AI agents are currently one of the most discussed topics in the tech world. Although there is some disagreement over the exact definition of the term, it generally refers to software that can autonomously make decisions and perform tasks using artificial intelligence—especially when interacting with other software.

AWS’s new platform could be a significant opportunity for startups, both big and small. It will allow them to directly offer their AI agents to AWS customers. Meanwhile, enterprise and corporate users will be able to browse, select, and use agents from a single, centralized platform according to their needs.

This platform also presents a great opportunity for Anthropic. Since AI agents can be developed using their API, the marketplace will help them attract more users and developers, which is expected to positively impact their revenue in the future.

It is known that Amazon has already made a substantial investment in Anthropic, and more multi-billion dollar investments may be forthcoming. The company announced that its annual revenue reached $3 billion in May.

Like other online marketplaces, AWS will take a small commission from agent sales on this platform. However, the commission rate is expected to be minimal, with the primary goal being to provide a centralized service for customers and open new revenue streams for startups.

The marketplace will price AI agents similarly to a SaaS (Software as a Service) model—meaning each agent will be sold separately via subscription or pricing, rather than bundled into larger service packages.

However, AWS is not the first to venture into this space. Google Cloud launched its AI Agent Marketplace in April, and Microsoft introduced a similar platform called Agent Store within Microsoft 365 Copilot in May. Enterprise software providers like Salesforce and ServiceNow also have their own AI agent marketplaces.

That said, it remains to be seen how effective these marketplaces will be for smaller startups and companies seeking specialized AI agents—only time will tell.
