Awami League leader Shariful Islam arrested in special operation at Wari

The Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) Unit of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has arrested F.M. Shariful Islam (42), a leader of the Awami League whose activities were under restriction. He previously served as the Secretary of Science and Technology for the Dhaka South Metropolitan Awami League and is currently the Organizational Secretary of the Wari Thana Awami League.

According to the DMP, he was detained around 4:45 PM on Monday during a special operation in the Wari Thana area. Based on confidential information confirming Shariful Islam’s location, members of the City Cyber Crime Investigation Division conducted the operation.

After his arrest, he was taken to the police station for preliminary questioning. Law enforcement officials stated that multiple allegations against him are being investigated.
