Attempted Human Trafficking of Women in Netrokona: Two Arrested, Including Chinese Citizen

Police in Kendua Upazila, Netrokona, have arrested a Chinese national and his local accomplice on suspicion of international trafficking of women.

The arrests were made early Monday at around 4:30 AM in Kamalpur village of Kendua Municipality. The arrested individuals are identified as Li Weihao, a Chinese citizen, and his local accomplice Md. Faridul Islam.

Police stated that a young woman working at a garment factory in Gazipur was married off to Li Weihao through Faridul Islam under the pretext of marriage. Subsequently, the plan was to send her to China, and her passport had already been prepared. Evidence of trafficking women abroad through marriage led to the arrest of the two suspects.

Kendua Police Station Officer-in-Charge Mizanur Rahman said that the arrested individuals are currently in police custody, and the investigation is ongoing. More details will be provided later.
