Amazon Bringing Update to Fire TV Mobile App with New Features

Amazon has begun rolling out a new version of the Fire TV mobile app to make the streaming experience easier and more integrated. On Thursday, the company said that with the new update users will not only be able to use their phones as a remote control, but will also be able to search for content directly from their phone, manage watchlists, and start videos on the TV.

Previously, the Fire TV mobile app was mainly used as an alternative remote control. However, in the new version, smartphones can be used as a second screen, where users can browse movies or series and add them to their watchlist—even while away from home.

According to Amazon, this update will make the connection between mobile devices and TVs much simpler. As a result, users will be able to quickly find their preferred content and watch it later on their TV.

The new app is currently being gradually launched in the United States, Brazil, Canada, France, Germany, India, Italy, Japan, Mexico, Spain, and the United Kingdom.

Amazon said the app’s new design has been developed to match the recently updated Fire TV user interface. The design includes rounded corners, various gradients, uniform typography, and more spacing between content to make navigation easier.

The top navigation bar has also been simplified. Categories such as Movies, TV Shows, Live TV, Sports, and News are now shown through icons. The search option has also been made easier to use next to the Home tab.

Within different tabs of the app, users will be able to see recommendations based on their subscribed streaming services along with their ongoing content. A personalized list called “For You” will display movies and shows based on individual preferences. There will also be lists for free movies, popular content, and paid content.

Amazon says that as the number of streaming platforms continues to increase, it has become difficult for viewers to know where specific content is available. The changes aim to make Fire TV not just an app-launching platform but also a central hub for discovering content.
