An allegation has been made against Dr. Abul Khair Ahmad Jaman, Assistant Professor and specialist in gout, pain, and paralysis at BIRDEM General Hospital in Dhaka, for allegedly harassing a student. The complainant is S.M. Siam, a student of the 2021-22 batch in the Department of Mass Communication and Journalism at Jagannath University and a university correspondent for the daily newspaper Dainik Dinakal.

Siam alleged that he visited BIRDEM in June for back and muscle pain. Although he initially experienced temporary relief from medication, his pain worsened in August, prompting new X-rays and other tests. When he presented the reports, Dr. Abul Khair reportedly became angry, threw the reports aside, and left the room without listening to the patient.

In a post shared on Facebook, Siam wrote, “Is it a crime to show the same report to multiple doctors or to seek a second opinion?” He further claimed that despite receiving payment for treatment, the doctor did not act responsibly and showed disrespect towards him and his father.

The student demands that the doctor publicly apologize and that BIRDEM authorities ensure that no doctor behaves in this manner in the future.

When asked about the allegations, Dr. Abul Khair Ahmad Jaman said, “Tests were conducted at a PG hospital, and I advised treatment accordingly. I left the room because it was prayer time.”

BIRDEM Hospital and the relevant authorities have not yet made any official comments on the matter.
