50-member new cabinet under BNP leadership to take oath today

After securing a landslide victory in the 13th National Parliamentary Election, the newly elected Members of Parliament (MPs) from the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) took oath on Tuesday morning. On the same day, a new cabinet is set to be formed in the afternoon. Full ministers and state ministers will be sworn in at a program held at the South Plaza of the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban (National Parliament Building).

According to party sources, a 50-member cabinet is being formed under the leadership of BNP Chairperson Tarique Rahman. The cabinet will include 25 full ministers and 24 state ministers. Additionally, several individuals have been included under the technocrat quota.

Those set to take oath as full ministers include party Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir; Standing Committee members Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury, Salahuddin Ahmed, Iqbal Hasan Mahmud (Tuku), Major (Retd.) Hafiz Uddin Ahmed, A Z M Zahid Hossain; Abdul Awal Mintoo; Kazi Shah Mofazzal Hossain Kaikobad; Mizanur Rahman Minu; Nitai Roy Chowdhury; Khandaker Abdul Moktadir; Ariful Haque Chowdhury; Zahir Uddin Swapan; Afroza Khanam (Rita); Asadul Habib Dulu; Md. Asaduzzaman; Zakaria Taher; Dipen Dewan; A N M Ehsanul Haque Milon, among others. As technocrats, Khalilur Rahman and Mohammad Aminur Rashid are taking oath.

Those set to take oath as state ministers include M. Rashiduzzaman Millat; Anindya Islam Amit; Md. Shariful Alam; Shama Obayed Islam; Kaiser Kamal; Farhad Hossain Azad; Aminul Haque; Mir Shahe Alam; Nurul Haque; Jonaed Saki; Farzana Sharmin, among others.

A section of party leaders said the cabinet has been formed through a combination of experienced and young leadership. Alongside elected representatives, important organizational leaders of the party have also been included in the new cabinet.

Meanwhile, foreign guests are arriving in Dhaka to attend the oath-taking ceremony of the new government. High-level representatives from various countries are expected to be present at the event.

In the election held on February 12, BNP moved toward forming the government after winning more than two-thirds of the seats. Although the newly elected MPs took oath in the morning, there has been significant political interest surrounding the cabinet’s oath ceremony scheduled for the afternoon.
