18,741 Children Suffering from Severe Malnutrition in Gaza: UN Agency Warns

Gaza, 25 June 2025 (Reuters): A total of 18,741 children have been admitted for treatment of severe acute malnutrition in Gaza since the beginning of this year, according to the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA). The situation has reached alarming levels, with 1,648 new cases reported in just the first two weeks of June, including 17 children in critical condition.

This worsening humanitarian crisis comes as Israel continues to impose strict restrictions on food supplies entering Gaza. While a partial easing of the 78-day blockade occurred in May, the quantity of food reaching the population remains grossly insufficient compared to the actual needs.

OCHA emphasized:

“The current volume and pace of humanitarian supplies are gravely inadequate to meet the needs of the entire population in Gaza, which is facing extreme levels of food insecurity.”

The dire situation is further illustrated by recent scenes in northern Gaza’s Beit Lahia, where Palestinians were seen crowding onto trucks to receive humanitarian aid on 23 June 2025.
