Seven Israeli soldiers were killed in a powerful explosion in the southern Gaza city of Khan Younis on Tuesday, marking the deadliest single-day loss for Israeli forces in the Gaza Strip so far this year.
According to The Jerusalem Post, all the deceased soldiers belonged to the 605th Combat Engineering Battalion. The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) have publicly released the names of six of the fallen, while the identity of the seventh is being withheld until the family is officially notified.
The IDF also reported that another soldier from the same battalion was critically injured in a separate incident in southern Gaza on the same day.
While this marks a significant loss for the Israeli military, it is not as severe as the incident in January 2024, when at least 24 Israeli soldiers were killed in a single day in Gaza.
A similar deadly attack occurred in April 2025, when Israeli forces suffered heavy casualties during operations in the Rafah area of southern Gaza.
