A tragic incident occurred in Trishal Upazila of Mymensingh where an elder brother lost his life while attempting to save his younger brother from drowning. As both brothers could not swim, they eventually drowned and died.

The incident took place on Friday (July 31) afternoon at Patuli village under Balipara Union of Trishal Upazila. The incident has cast a shadow of mourning over the village.

The deceased children were Zobaid (8) and Shamim (5), sons of Ripon Mia, residents of the same village. Zobaid was the elder brother while Shamim was the younger one.

According to local residents, the two brothers went into a pond near their house to wash mud from their bodies after catching fish. At one point, younger brother Shamim moved into a deeper area of the pond and began drowning.

Seeing his younger brother drowning, elder brother Zobaid jumped into the pond to rescue him. However, as he did not know how to swim, he also drowned within a short time.

When family members could not find the two children for a long time, they started searching around the area. Later, their mother saw one of the children floating in the pond and screamed for help.

Hearing her cries, local people rushed to the spot and rescued both children from the pond. They were taken immediately to Trishal Upazila Health Complex, where doctors declared them dead after examination.

Dr. Sakib, a medical officer at Trishal Upazila Health Complex, confirmed the incident and said family members brought the two children to the hospital in the afternoon.

“However, they had already died before reaching the hospital,” he said.

The sudden death of the two brothers has left the family devastated. The tragic incident has also created deep sorrow among local residents.
