Trump’s social media post stated, “Any document signed by ‘Sleepy Joe Biden’ using AutoPen, estimated at 92%, is immediately void and has no legal validity.”
Trump has long claimed that Biden, due to advanced age and declining mental health, was not fully in control of executive power. He warned that if Biden admits involvement with AutoPen, he could face charges of false oath in court.
The use of AutoPen, a mechanical signature device, has a long history in the White House, first used by President Thomas Jefferson. Trump also used it during his first term. Biden has denied the allegations, stating in June, “All decisions during my presidency were mine alone. Executive orders, legislation, approvals—all were my decisions. Anything not directed by me is completely false.”
Legal experts consider Trump’s claim contestable, noting that in U.S. law, a document signed by a president is legally valid regardless of the method. Concerns over Biden’s age and health affecting administration performance had already been raised during last year’s debates, where his fatigue and lack of focus were noticeable.
Trump’s remarks have sparked political controversy, while the Biden administration and legal experts view them as baseless and politically motivated.
