PNN International Desk | 01 July 2025: Despite US President Donald Trump’s recent statement hinting at the possibility of resuming dialogue with Iran, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has outright dismissed any immediate chances of reopening negotiations.

Speaking to CBS Evening News on Monday, Araghchi’s remarks came just as G7 foreign ministers issued a joint statement urging Iran to reengage in dialogue over its nuclear program.

Tensions between Tehran and Washington have escalated sharply, especially following coordinated airstrikes on June 21, in which the US reportedly joined Israel in bombing key Iranian nuclear and military facilities—including Fordow, Natanz, and Isfahan—amid ongoing discussions. Iran insists its nuclear program is for peaceful purposes, while the US and Israel remain skeptical, aiming to prevent Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons capability.

Araghchi made it clear that negotiations would not resume under the current conditions. “To even consider sitting back at the negotiation table, we must first be assured that the United States will not conduct further military attacks during the dialogue process,” he stated. He added, “Given the situation, we need more time,” but emphasized that “the door to diplomacy is never entirely closed.”

The sharp exchange of military and diplomatic gestures continues to raise fears of further regional destabilization, with global powers urging restraint and renewed diplomatic efforts.
