Television Actor Ashish Kapoor Arrested in Pune Over Rape Allegation

Popular Indian television actor Ashish Kapoor has been arrested in Pune following a serious rape allegation, sending shockwaves through India’s entertainment industry.

According to police sources, the complaint states that in the second week of August, during a house party in Delhi, Ashish Kapoor allegedly sexually assaulted a woman in the restroom. The woman filed an FIR at Civil Lines Police Station, Delhi, on August 11. Since the complaint, Delhi police had been trying to apprehend the actor. Using mobile phone records and other leads, Ashish was eventually arrested in Pune.

During the investigation, it was noted that the complainant initially filed the allegation against Ashish along with other unidentified individuals but later revised her statement to accuse only Ashish. The complaint mentioned that the incident was allegedly recorded on video; however, police have not received any video footage or medical reports during the investigation.

The Indian Express reported that CCTV footage and eyewitness accounts confirm that Ashish and the complainant entered the restroom together. After an extended period, Ashish’s friends and other guests knocked on the door. A verbal dispute ensued between the parties, extending to the housing society gate. The complainant also alleged that Ashish’s friend’s wife attacked and assaulted her during this time.

Ashish Kapoor is a familiar face on television, having acted in popular serials such as Ye Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai, Love Marriage Ya Arranged Marriage, Chand Chupa Badal Mein, and Saraswatichandra. Besides acting, he also works as an interior designer. His Instagram account has been deactivated.

Police and investigators are examining all aspects of the case to ensure due process is followed.
