In the first 29 days of December, remittances from expatriates reached $304.10 million, equivalent to $3.04 billion. On average, around $10.49 million was sent to the country daily.
Arif Hossain Khan, Executive Director and Spokesperson of Bangladesh Bank, stated on Tuesday (30 December) that the remittance flow in this December is significantly higher than the same period last year, when $252.10 million was received. This shows a clear increase in expatriate income within a year.
According to Bangladesh Bank, on 29 December alone, $10.50 million was remitted. During the current 2024-25 fiscal year, from July to 29 December, total remittance reached $1,607.90 million, marking an approximate 17.7% increase compared to the same period last fiscal year. Monthly data shows that November saw the highest remittance so far, at over $2.88 billion, followed by October ($2.56 billion) and September ($2.68 billion). August and July recorded $2.42 billion and $2.47 billion, respectively.
Experts believe that increased use of legal channels for sending money, incentives, and improved employment opportunities in foreign labor markets have contributed to this positive remittance trend. Bangladesh Bank data shows that during the 2024-25 fiscal year, a total of $30.32 billion was remitted, setting a record for single-year expatriate income in the country’s history.
