The Malayalam film Lokah Chapter 1: Chandra has set a new box office record with widespread acclaim from audiences on social media and positive reviews from critics. Since its release on 28 August, the movie has earned ₹203 crore worldwide in just 13 days. Made on a ₹30 crore budget, the film has achieved a remarkable 600% profit.
The central role is played by Kalyani Priyadarshan, directed by Dominic Arun, and produced by Dulquer Salmaan’s Wayfare Films. Recently at an event in Chennai, Dulquer announced that profits from all chapters of the film will be shared with the entire team.
Among Malayalam cinema fans, Lokah is so popular that it has become the third highest-grossing Malayalam film of 2025. The current all-time highest-grossing Malayalam film is L2 Empuran (₹268 crore). If Lokah continues its run, it could reach the top spot.
Both audiences and critics have praised the film. Bollywood stars Priyanka Chopra and Alia Bhatt have shared positive remarks about it. In this female-led movie, Kalyani Priyadarshan portrays Chandra as a strong woman navigating a world that blends mythology and modern reality.
Within one week of release, the film crossed the ₹100 crore milestone globally, making it the highest-grossing female-led film in South Indian cinema history.
