The National Citizen Party (NCP) has temporarily relieved its Central Joint Member Secretary Gazi Salahuddin Tanvir from organizational responsibilities over allegations of making offensive remarks about Prime Minister and BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman on social media.

The party has also instructed him to submit a written explanation within two working days stating why further organizational action should not be taken against him.

The decision was announced in an organizational letter published on NCP’s verified Facebook page on Friday (July 31) night.

This is the second time Salahuddin Tanvir has been removed from party responsibilities.

Earlier, in April 2025, he was removed from organizational duties following allegations of influencing the appointment of Deputy Commissioners and involvement in commission trading related to textbook printing work of the National Curriculum and Textbook Board (NCTB).

According to party sources, Salahuddin Tanvir made a post on his Facebook account on Friday regarding Prime Minister Tarique Rahman.

In the post, he referred to alleged attacks and obstructions faced by NCP during its July March programmes in Habiganj and several districts of Sylhet Division. He also made allegations against several leaders and activists of Chhatra Dal and Jubo Dal.

However, allegations emerged that the post contained offensive remarks regarding the Prime Minister.

After the post was published, Tanvir faced widespread criticism on social media. Although he later removed the post, screenshots of it spread across different platforms.

Following the incident, NCP suspended him from organizational duties on Friday night and issued a show-cause notice.

According to the letter issued by NCP, allegations were raised against Salahuddin Tanvir for serious violation of organizational discipline and making comments on social media that could damage the image of the party.

Considering the seriousness of the matter, NCP Convener Nahid Islam and Member Secretary Akhtar Hossain ordered his immediate temporary removal from organizational responsibilities.

The letter further stated that, according to the party constitution and disciplinary rules, he must submit a written defense, necessary documents, and explanations to the Central Disciplinary Committee within two working days after receiving the notice.

Earlier, in April 2025, Salahuddin Tanvir was temporarily removed from the party after allegations surfaced that he entered the Secretariat and attempted to influence the appointment of Deputy Commissioners, as well as allegations of commission trading in NCTB textbook printing work.

The party reinstated him nearly one year later on April 16 this year after those allegations were not proven.

Around three and a half months after returning to the party, he was again relieved of organizational responsibilities following new allegations.

Meanwhile, around the same time when NCP published the suspension letter, Salahuddin Tanvir posted on his Facebook account expressing regret over his remarks.

However, his detailed statement regarding the matter was not immediately available.

NCP sources said the party’s next organizational decision will be taken after reviewing his explanation and submitted evidence before the disciplinary committee.
