In Birampur, Dinajpur, former leader Mehedi Hasan Chowdhury has returned to Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami five years after resigning from the party to join Amar Bangladesh (AB) Party. On Thursday night, under his leadership, 40 other AB Party leaders and activists also rejoined Jamaat.
During the event, Arafat Al Abir, a member of the Birampur Upazila committee of the Bangladesh Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal, also joined Jamaat.
The rejoining ceremony was held at the Upazila Jamaat office on Dhanhati Mor, presided over by Upazila Ameer Hafizul Islam. The chief guest was Anisur Rahman, central Shura member and district Ameer of Jamaat. Special guests included former district Ameer Anwarul Islam, district secretary Muhaddis Enamul Haque, and other party leaders.
Mehedi Hasan Chowdhury stated that during his time with the AB Party, he did not find the ideological guidance he was seeking. However, he was drawn back to Jamaat-e-Islami by its current ideals and activities, which motivated him and his followers to rejoin.
It is notable that Mehedi Hasan served as president of the Birampur branch of Jamaat’s affiliate, the Workers’ Welfare Federation, in 2020, later joined the AB Party where he held positions as central editorial member and district secretary. He formally resigned from the AB Party on Wednesday.
