Khulna: Youth League leader hacked to death, tension grips the area

Khulna: Shamim Hossain (33), a leader of the Youth League, was fatally hacked on the back of his neck in Dumuria, Khulna. The attack occurred late Friday night (22 August) when assailants entered his rented house in the Atharo Mile area and carried out the killing with a sharp weapon.

Shamim was the son of Abdul Gaffar Sheikh of Uthuli village in Islampur Union, Tala Upazila, and a former Union Parishad member. He served as the Joint Convener of Tala Islampur Union’s Youth League.

Police and locals reported that Shamim had been running a pesticide business in the Atharo Mile area of Dumuria for a long time.

Tala Upazila Youth League Senior Joint Convener Saidur Rahman Said stated that the murder might have been premeditated and urged law enforcement agencies to apprehend the perpetrators quickly.

OC of Dumuria Police Station Masud Rana said the body was recovered and sent to Khulna Medical College Hospital for autopsy. Additional police personnel have been deployed at the scene. The motive behind the killing is not yet confirmed, and no formal complaint has been filed by the family.
