Journalist Tarikul Shibly dies while covering DU CUSU polling station

During coverage inside the Karjon Hall polling station for the Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (DU CUSU) election, Channel S city reporter Tarikul Shibly (40) suddenly lost consciousness and later passed away.

On Tuesday (September 9) around 1:30 PM, he was rescued in an unconscious state and rushed to the emergency department of Dhaka Medical College Hospital, where the attending doctors declared him dead.

According to his colleague Sohel Rana, Tarikul fainted suddenly while broadcasting live. He was immediately taken to the hospital, where doctors confirmed his death.

Tarikul Shibly was from Etbarpur in Burichang Upazila of Comilla District. He is survived by two daughters and had been residing in Deyabari, Uttara.

Md. Faruk, in charge of the Dhaka Medical College Hospital Police Camp, confirmed the death and stated that the body has been kept in the morgue and the relevant police station has been informed. Preliminary indications suggest that he may have died from a heart-related issue, though the exact cause will be confirmed after the autopsy report.
