The Ministry of Home Affairs has temporarily suspended 18 police officers, including Mohammad Haroon Rashid, former chief of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Detective Branch.

A notice issued on Sunday by the Police-1 Division of the Public Security Department stated that Senior Secretary Nasimul Goni signed the decision following orders from the President.

The notice explained that the officers in question left their workplaces without permission from their superiors. Such absence is considered an offense of “absconding” under the Government Employees (Discipline and Appeal) Rules, 2018. They have been temporarily suspended on this charge.

During the suspension period, the officers will receive their usual allowances according to regulations. The ministry stated that the decision was taken in the public interest.

Among the 18 officers on the list is former DB chief Mohammad Haroon Rashid, who has been known for both controversial and widely discussed activities over the years.
