PNN News Desk | Dhaka:
A devastating fire at the Cargo Village of Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka has caused nearly $1 billion, or approximately 12,000 crore Bangladeshi Taka, in losses, according to the Exporters Association of Bangladesh (EAB). This information was shared during a briefing on Monday (20 October).

The EAB stated that preliminary investigations suggest the fire not only caused financial damage but also significantly affected the country’s international reputation, raising concerns about Bangladesh’s economic standing.

The fire broke out at the airport’s Cargo Village on Saturday and took nearly 27 hours to be fully extinguished. The prolonged firefighting effort and the scale of the damage have dealt a major blow to the country’s industrial sector.

The government has already formed an investigative committee to determine the cause of the fire and assess the full extent of the losses. Experts warn that this disaster at the nation’s main airport could have long-term effects on Bangladesh’s economy and international services.
