Italian luxury sports car manufacturer Ferrari has unveiled its first fully electric supercar in its history. The new model is named “Luce”, priced at approximately 640,000 US dollars (about 474,320 British pounds).

The new car differs significantly from Ferrari’s traditional designs. It is the company’s first five-seater electric vehicle, designed in collaboration with LoveFrom, the design firm founded by former Apple design chief Sir Jony Ive.

The car has received mixed reactions on social media. Some called it an “unnecessary design”, while others described it as a “masterpiece of design”.

Ferrari CEO Benedetto Vigna said “Luce” means “light” in Italian. The vehicle took about five years to develop.

Although Ferrari previously avoided fully electric vehicles, it is now gradually moving in that direction, having earlier focused mainly on hybrid technology.

Each wheel has a separate electric motor, allowing the car to accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in just 2.5 seconds.

Ferrari said all components are developed with in-house technology to ensure easier maintenance and stable resale value.

However, challenges are increasing in the electric vehicle market. Companies like Lamborghini and Porsche are shifting back toward hybrid models.

Market conditions in the US and China, along with declining demand, are forcing many manufacturers to reconsider their EV strategies.

Ferrari will continue selling hybrid and petrol vehicles while gradually introducing electric models.

Analysts say that although high-end luxury buyers remain cautious, electric supercars could create a new competitive market in the long term.
