“Emotional Facebook Reaction from Tanvir Hamim After Defeat in DUCSU Elections”

Sheikh Tanvir Bari Hamim, a Bangladesh Chhatra Dal-backed candidate, contested the post of General Secretary (GS) in the Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (DUCSU) election. However, in the election held on Sunday (September 9), he was defeated by the Islami Chhatra Shibir-supported candidate S.M. Farhad.

After the results were announced, Tanvir Hamim shared a heartfelt reaction on his personal Facebook account. In his post, he tried to come to terms with the pain of defeat while also expressing gratitude to his supporters and party workers.

Hamim wrote that he sees himself as an ordinary person who, despite being cheerful, is always a fighter. He considers the honor given to him by Chhatra Dal and its central leadership, particularly Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman, in nominating him for the GS post, a major achievement in his political life.

He also claimed that the support of Dhaka University students was not accurately reflected in the results and expressed his regret to Tarique Rahman and the DU students. Hamim stated, “I have faced many defeats in my personal life, but this is my first loss in political life. This defeat, however, is due to fate, circumstances, and timing.”

Expressing deep gratitude toward his party’s workers, he added, “My university seniors gave their best efforts for me. I am especially grateful to Tarique Rahman and those students who believed in my victory, as well as to those students who thought I was not worthy.”

He also expressed trust in Allah, saying that prayers are never in vain. He hopes that this defeat will provide new strength for his future endeavors.

It is worth noting that the GS race in this DUCSU election was highly competitive. While candidates from various student organizations participated, the victory ultimately went to S.M. Farhad, supported by Islami Chhatra Shibir.
