Concern Grows Over Iran’s Supreme Leader Khamenei Amid Public Absence and Security Fears

PNN International Desk:

Widespread concern is mounting across Iran over the whereabouts and well-being of the country’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, following intense bombing campaigns by Israel and the United States. His continued absence from public view has ignited speculation and anxiety among both political circles and ordinary citizens.

On Tuesday (June 24), during a live broadcast on Iranian state television, an anchor directly addressed the issue by questioning an official from Khamenei’s office.

“People are very worried about the Supreme Leader. Can you tell us how he is doing?” the anchor asked, noting that the network had been overwhelmed with viewer messages expressing the same concern. However, Mehdi Fazayeli, a senior official from the Supreme Leader’s archive department, did not offer a direct response. Instead, he acknowledged the growing unease:

“We, too, have received many reports of concern from various sources. After the intense bombings by Israel and the U.S., many are worried about Ayatollah Khamenei’s safety.” He added, “We must all pray for him. Those tasked with protecting the Supreme Leader are doing their job well. God willing, our people will celebrate victory with their leader beside them.”

Ayatollah Khamenei has not been seen in public for nearly a week. He has also made no speeches or public statements during a period of extreme national crisis. His silence and absence have fueled speculation within Iran’s political establishment and among its citizens—raising questions about his health, security, and leadership amid escalating regional conflict.

Observers warn that Khamenei’s extended absence during such a volatile period could destabilize the country's internal political balance, particularly as the war with Israel deepens and pressure mounts from both domestic and international fronts.
