Chhatra Dal Leader Arrested in Jashore Over Alleged Rape of HSC Student

Police have arrested Arafat Hossain Rabbi (22), senior joint general secretary of Chougacha Government College Chhatra Dal, over allegations of raping an HSC second-year student in Chougacha upazila of Jashore.

Police detained him after receiving a written complaint from the victim at around 9 pm on Saturday (August 1). Later, a rape case was filed against him based on the complaint.

Rabbi is the son of Selim Reza of Balidapara village under Fulsara Union of Chougacha upazila. Police said the victim and the accused have a family connection and are related as maternal and paternal cousins.

According to the case statement, the student contacted Rabbi seeking assistance regarding the preparation of her National Identity Card. Although the Upazila Election Office was closed due to a government holiday, Rabbi allegedly took her to Chougacha town at around 9 am on Saturday.

The complaint stated that later, under various excuses, the victim was taken to a house in Niribilipara area of Ward No. 4 of Chougacha Municipality, where she was allegedly raped.

After the incident, the student became ill. After recovering somewhat, she returned home and informed her family members. Later in the evening, she went to Chougacha Police Station with her mother and submitted a written complaint.

Following the complaint, a police team led by Sub-Inspector (SI) Abdus Sattar conducted an operation and arrested Rabbi.

Chougacha Police Station OC Mamunur Rashid confirmed the incident and said a case was filed based on the victim’s family’s complaint. The accused will be produced before the court on Sunday, and further legal proceedings are underway.
