In Gafargaon, Mymensingh, police recovered the body of a seven-year-old girl named Cynthia, a day after she went missing. Her body was found on Thursday morning (21 August) in a pond near Gafargaon Railway Station.
The deceased, Cynthia Saltia, was the daughter of Rubel Mia from the village. The child used to live with her mother in a rented house near the railway station. Her mother, Sumi Begum, works at a household for her livelihood. According to locals, Cynthia often played around the station area. When she was not found from Wednesday afternoon, her family grew anxious.
On Thursday morning, locals saw the child’s body floating in a pond near the station and informed the police. Later, Gafargaon police recovered the body.
Railway outpost in-charge ASI Golam Kibria said that it is initially suspected that Cynthia accidentally fell into the water while playing and drowned. However, the exact cause of death is being investigated through legal procedures.
The sudden incident has cast a shadow of grief over the area. Neighbors say Cynthia was a beloved child, and no one can accept her untimely death.
