BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has stated that the party is not worried about the national election, although some political circles are trying to create unnecessary panic. He expressed hope that a credible election will be held on time and the public will participate in it.
He made these comments on Sunday evening while responding to journalists’ questions during an inspection of preparations for the Thakurgaon District BNP biennial conference, which will be held tomorrow, Monday.
Speaking about the conference, Mirza Fakhrul said that BNP leaders and activists in Thakurgaon have faced severe oppression under the current government. More than 7,500 leaders and activists have been implicated in over 75 cases. Many have had to appear in court, serve prison terms, or flee their homes and hide in rice fields to avoid arrest.
He added, “Despite an undemocratic and oppressive situation, Thakurgaon BNP has survived. Today, they are rejuvenated with new enthusiasm.”
The BNP Secretary General also mentioned that Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman will deliver a virtual speech as the chief guest at the district conference. This has generated fresh excitement among the party members. He said, “We believe this conference will mark the beginning of a new horizon in BNP politics.”
District BNP General Secretary Mirza Faisal Amin, Vice President Abu Taher, Thakurgaon City BNP President Shariful Islam, and other local leaders were also present. Organizers have confirmed that all preparations for the conference have been completed.
