BNP Leader Arrested Over Attack on Police in Jamalpur

Abu Said, a 35-year-old leader of the BNP, has been arrested in Madarganj, Jamalpur, for attacking police officers and forcibly freeing a drug dealer who was caught with yaba tablets.

Md. Saifullah Saif, Officer-in-Charge of Madarganj Model Police Station, confirmed the arrest on Tuesday afternoon. He stated that Abu Said was taken into custody Monday night from his residence in the West Para area of Char Pakerdah Union. Abu Said is the son of Nurul Islam from the area and serves as the general secretary of Ward No. 9 of Char Pakerdah Union BNP.

The OC added that Abu Said was arrested under charges of obstructing government duties and attacking police officers and was presented in Jamalpur court on Tuesday afternoon. Police operations to apprehend other suspects, including Nasir Chiku, are ongoing.

Golam Kibria Biplob Tarfadar, president of Char Pakerdah Union BNP, said, “I have learned about Abu Said’s arrest through your report. Organizational action will be taken after investigation.”

On Saturday night (16 August), police arrested a drug dealer, 25-year-old Nasir Chiku, with 33 yaba tablets. While transporting him to the station, his relatives and associates attacked the police in Bangla Bazar area of Char Pakerdah Union, forcibly freed him, and fled. Two police officers were injured and received initial treatment at the Upazila Hospital.

SI Hasib Al Mahfuz of Madarganj Model Police Station said that cases have been filed against eight named suspects and 60–70 unidentified individuals for obstructing government duties and attacking police officers
