Strong growth in expatriate income has been observed at the beginning of the new year. Within the first 21 days of January, $2.33 billion USD has entered the country, which is approximately 55% higher compared to the same period last year. According to Bangladesh Bank, more than $110 million USD in remittances has been received on average per day during the latest week.

According to the latest data from the central bank, nearly $110 million USD was sent by expatriates on January 21 alone. From July of the 2025–26 fiscal year until January 21, total expatriate income reached $18.59 billion USD. During the same period last fiscal year, the amount was $15.28 billion USD. Consequently, expatriate remittance has grown by approximately 21.7% in the current fiscal year.

Bankers say that this positive trend in expatriate income may continue for the remaining days of January. They believe that the increasing tendency to send money through official channels and the simplification of banking systems are contributing factors.

Recent statistics also show an upward trend. In December, expatriate income was $3.22 billion USD, about $330 million more than in November. In November, the remittance amount was approximately $2.89 billion. According to Bangladesh Bank, in 2025, a total of $32.82 billion USD in remittances was received, which is roughly equivalent to the country’s foreign currency reserves and is considered an important positive indicator for the economy.
