The Bangladeshi short film A Thing About Kashem has won the Grand Prize in the “Alternative Spirit” category at the Oscar-qualifying Rhode Island International Film Festival. The 17-minute film’s story was written by the renowned author Nuhash Humayun and directed by Bijon Imtiaz.
Filmmaker Bijon Imtiaz said, “I don’t stress about the film’s results. If people like it, that’s great; if not, it doesn’t matter.”
The film stars Intekhab Dinar in the lead role. The story revolves around the discovery of a person’s hidden inner self and the upheaval it brings to their life, along with the process of trying to control it. Other cast members include Moutusi Biswas, Hasnat Ripon, Kamruzzaman Tapu, and Tanushree Karkun.
The screenplay was written by Nuhash Humayun, with director Bijon Imtiaz contributing to story development. The film was produced by Arifur Rahman and Nuhash Humayun.
This victory brings the film one step closer to the Oscars, marking a proud moment for Bangladesh’s film industry.
