Bangladesh Bank has issued a warning that a fake website named ‘Taka-Pay’ is attempting to collect personal and financial information from the public. The Department of Communications and Publications of Bangladesh Bank released this notice on August 4.
According to the notice, Bangladesh Bank has launched a national card scheme called ‘Taka-Pay’ to regulate domestic card-based transactions, reduce expenses, and curb foreign currency use. Currently, 15 scheduled banks are providing customers with Taka-Pay debit cards under this scheme.
However, it has been found that a fraudulent website, www.takapaycard.com, is trying to collect sensitive and confidential information from the public. Bangladesh Bank clearly states that they currently do not have any website or mobile app for the Taka-Pay scheme.
The fraudulent website illegally uses the logos and trademarks of Bangladesh Bank and NPSP without permission, which is punishable under the ‘Trademark Act, 2009.’
Furthermore, under various provisions of the ‘Payment and Settlement Systems Act, 2024,’ conducting financial transactions, accepting investments, or providing loans without Bangladesh Bank’s permission is a punishable offense.
Bangladesh Bank urges the public not to provide any information on the fake website or engage in any financial transactions there. Entering such websites or submitting information can lead to financial loss and harassment.
